Summary

We invite organisations, groups, and individuals working in Internet infrastructure, climate resilience, emergency response, or community support to join us in this important work.

The research activities centre around a Network of people with a range of backgrounds and expertise working together with the project team to inform what we focus on, how we work together, and what we end up recommending or creating. Information for Network members and about the Network research activities can be found in the Network Information Hub.

We welcome anyone to get in touch if they would like more information and are interested in getting involved. Our initial Network meeting was held in July 2025 and you can access the slides below.

A network-based approach

The research project is comprised a broad network of participants from a range of expertise areas and backgrounds who bring a range of perspectives and expertise to the table. Network members will be the hearts and brains of the work, and will be supported by the project team who will handle many of the logistics and help to draft outputs where appropriate.

Approach: Network activities in three research phases

The research process will take place in three phases, which will start following the network launch meeting:

  1. Coming Together
  2. Sharing Experiences and Visions
  3. Exploring Options and Choices for Action

Each phase will last for two to three months and include at least one online meeting with all members of the wider network, with more focused and specific research activities taking place in between.

The network members can engage with the research in a capacity that fits their interest and availability. There will be flexible online activities and ways for the network to connect around themes and subtopics, including meetings and workshops, an email list and Discord groups.

These activities will be designed as we go and carried out by groups of participants from the Network.  The coming together phase will make space to build connections and have dialogue within the network membership, as well as with the research team, to plan out these activities collaboratively.

Knowledge and experience

We need more than just people with formal job titles and qualifications

It’s really important that this work doesn’t leave people feeling too intimidated to participate.

Ultimately, this work is about the impact of climate change and Internet infrastructure on communities.
