The goal of this Phase 2 work stream is to start work to build a cohesive picture of relevant work underway to support Internet infrastructure resilience in Aotearoa New Zealand. Network members who participated in this workstream contributed their thoughts about what is needed from a mapping output and inputs into the list of initiatives underway. This work is continuing into Phase 3.
During Phase 2, the Network provided guidance for what would be useful from a mapping exercise that creates an interactive map and dataset that shows a range of entities and initiatives connected to Internet infrastructure resilience in the context of climate change:
The project team has now developed a prototype map, drawing on a range of data sources. The team will be adding/refining content and exploring further functionality over the summer. The map will be published using the free tool Obsidian, which allows for a visual representation of the information and for users to access further details of each entry if they want further detail. The mapping output will be primarily for use during research to identify opportunities for action, however, we will be considering whether the mapping can also be use to others and how it might be maintained over time.
You can take a look at the prototype here, where you can find more information about how it was produced and a way of proposing additional entries.
The following resources were suggested to members of the IICR Network as reading in preparation for this workstream.
In the backgrounder, we have collated a list of some of the work underway already, organised by types of actor (e.g. government, academia etc) and type of initative (e.g. systemic, business-as-usual). This will be a starting point for content for the mapping.
We suggest having a look at a few examples of ecosystem or stakeholder mapping to help inform what you would like to see from the mapping output/s. Examples include (working list and team may add more here):
Directories of initiatives
